The UK branch
of the Tallis Scholars Summer Schools is dedicated to exploring
our great heritage of Renaissance choral music and developing
a performance style appropriate to it, as pioneered by the
Tallis Scholars. Under the direction of Peter Phillips and
members of the Tallis Scholars we work on concert and service
repertoire in a variety of small and medium sized groups.
The week’s activities culminate in a Gala Concert by
summer school participants, directed by Peter Phillips.
The course takes place at Oakham School, an independent school
founded in 1584. Activities are based around the chapel, located
minutes from the picturesque and historic town centre.
The cost is £935 (£635 students), including all
tuition and activities, full board accommodation at Oakham
School and a concert given by the Tallis Scholars.
Bursaries available to 18-21 years old only. Bursaries are limited , early application advisable.
We welcome applications from all singers aged 16 and over with
good sightreading skills.
For the 10th anniversary (2009) the theme will be English music from the Chapel Royal to include Tallis Gaude Gloriosa, Lamentations, Tunes for Archbishop Parker, If you love me and music by Byrd and Gibbons.
